Treatment - Non Surgical
The primary treatment for most throwing elbow problems is correction of faulty throwing mechanics. A period of rest and anti-inflammatory medication is usually prescribed, followed by a throwing mechanics program. Then, when the mechanics of the thrower's motion are improved, the interval throwing program is begun. Please login to review details of interval throwing programs.
Depending on the exact nature of the problem, non-surgical treatment is usually successful, but normally involves no more pitching for the current season. Most throwers are able to return the following season. Lack of progress with non-surgical treatment can be a reason to proceed with surgical treatment. That decision is made in time to still allow return to play the following season, even if surgery is needed.
